Yamaha have emerged as protagonists in the FIM MX-GP World Championship after the first two rounds with Yamaha Monster Energy riders David Philippaerts and Ken De Dycker running near the front of the premier class, MX1-GP. Philippaerts earned a podium result in the second moto at last weekend's Grand Prix of Lombardia at Mantova and also sealed pole position using the potency of the innovative real-slating fuel-injected engine of the brand new YZ450FM.

Aside from the captivating FIM series, Yamaha have enjoyed significant presence in other competitions with their off-road motorcycling technology. Thanks to victory in Portugal for round one and a solid fourth position last Sunday in France, former MX2 Spanish national champion Carlos Campano – a long-time Yamaha rider on the motocross circuit – is now leading the large-bore MX3 category. The class is run on a separate calendar (that also includes the highly competitive MX2 European Championship) and after his bright start Campano heads a title chase for the first time in his career.

"I had a good feeling and I know I am good with the starts," the 24 year old said after his success in Portugal. "My Yamaha was running fine all the weekend, the team made the proper settings and I could race smooth. A big thanks to my team and family for their support." Campano leads Alex Salvini by six points with round three of thirteen taking place in three weeks in Argentina.

The first round of eight in the FIM Enduro World Championship occurred over a long, hot and dry course at Valverde del Camino for the Grand Prix of Spain last week. WR250F rider Cristobal Guerrero was able to scale the podium with 3rd position in the E1 category, behind riders Johnny Aubert and Antoine Meo. "This year E1 will be very difficult, there are some fast people competing, but I feel happy with my preparation and I am ready to give everything mentally and physically," the Spaniard said. "My objective is to break into the top three. Last year I made six podiums and I am hoping for more in 2010."

Guerrero is in action again this weekend at Fafe for the Grand Prix of Portugal.
